デヴィッド・ボウイ 最後の贈り物!
ミュージカル『LAZARUS』が待望の日本初演!
伝説的なロック・スターで、1970年代以後のファッションやアート、カルチャーに多大な影響を及ぼした革新者、デヴィッド・ボウイ。彼の最後のアルバム『★（ブラックスター）』と同時期に制作され、遺作ともなったミュージカル『LAZARUS』（2015年オフブロードウェイで初演）が日本初演を果たします。
ボウイが主人公を演じた映画『地球に落ちて来た男』（1976年／ニコラス・ローグ監督)にインスパイアされた本作は、地球に取り残されたまま酒に溺れ、死ぬことも故郷に帰ることもできなくなった宇宙人トーマス・ニュートンの、その後の物語。謎の少女と出会い、共に自らの運命を模索する先に、魂の解放はあるのか――。
脚本を手がけたのはエンダ・ウォルシュ。日本でも上演された『バリーターク』、『アーリントン』〔ラブ・ストーリー〕、『Medicine メディスン』とも共通する、閉塞状況における愛と希望の物語が、ボウイの楽曲と共に展開します。そして、日本版の演出を担うのは、これまでのウォルシュ作品の翻訳上演を数多く担当してきた白井 晃。ボウイへの憧憬からロック・スターの道を志した松岡 充との初タッグで、音楽とSF、アートを越境し混交させたボウイの世界観を舞台上に蘇らせます。
劇中には、このミュージカルのために書き下ろされた新曲「Lazarus」、「No Plan」、「Killing a Little Time」、「When I Met You」のほか、「Changes」、「Absolute Beginners」、「Heroes」をはじめとするデヴィッド・ボウイの代表曲を含む全17曲が織り込まれています。デヴィッド・ボウイの遺志を尊重し、音楽パートは英語での歌唱となります。
また、日本ミュージカル界の新鋭、豊原江理佳、鈴木瑛美子、小南満佑子、白井作品への出演も豊富な崎山つばさ、渡部豪太、数々のミュージカルに出演する実力派 遠山裕介、上原理生と、自身のアーティスト活動、映像、舞台とさまざまなフィールドで活躍する個性豊かな面々の参加は、舞台上に立ち上がる世界を、よりエネルギッシュで広がりのあるものにするでしょう。
David Bowie's Final Gift!
The long-awaited Japanese premiere of the musical "LAZARUS"!
David Bowie, a legendary rock star and innovator who had a major impact on fashion, art, and culture since the 1970s. The musical "LAZARUS" (premiered off-Broadway in 2015), which was produced around the same time as his last album “★ (Black Star),” and which also became his last project, will have its Japanese premiere.
Inspired by the film "The Man Who Fell to Earth" (1976, directed by Nicolas Roeg), in which Bowie played the main character, it tells the story of Thomas Newton, an alien who is trapped on the Earth and drowns himself in alcohol, unable to return to his home planet or even die. He meets a mysterious girl and together they seek out their own destiny.
The script was co-written by Enda Walsh. The Japanese version will be directed by Akira Shirai, who has worked and staged all of the Japanese versions of Walsh's works. The play features 17 songs, including new songs written specifically for the musical, "LAZARUS," "No Plan," "Killing a Little Time," and "When I Met You," as well as David Bowie's signature songs, such as "Changes," "Absolute Beginners," and "Heroes." This production will respect David Bowie's wishes, and all of the songs will be performed in English.
